Gift Wrap Has Begun!

ORT’s biggest annual fundraiser is happening right now at Valley Fair Mall and we need your help! Please go to our website at svort.org or call Wendy to volunteer today! We know you are busy, but please make an effort to find at least 3 or 4 hours to help. Our children need to see that volunteering to help others is important, and our students need us!

Our needs are greatest for the afternoon and evening shifts. Please consider getting someone else to pick up the kids or be in charge of dinner, once or twice this month. It’s a great feeling to make a difference by volunteering, but nobody said it would always be convenient!

If you’ve never wrapped before, we can teach you! Call ASAP so we can get you in with a pro before it gets too busy to train. You may be surprised by how much fun you have!

This year, the mall is charging us for space, cutting heavily into our profits. We need you more than ever!

We also need help to tear down our booth and put it back into storage on 12/26, after the mall closes. It should only take an hour, since we won’t have much stock left. Please Call Susan Hertzberg to volunteer.

January Meeting

Our January 9th meeting will feature nationally acclaimed Jewish storyteller & playwright Erica Lann-Clark. Erica’s stories for adults range from old Jewish fables to modern tales of the Bronx. She also teaches others to tell their stories, because it is our stories that make us human.

The meeting will be held at the home of Wendy Peikes at 7:30 p.m. Come for a warm evening of entertainment and enlightenment on a cold winter night. Guests and members we haven’t seen in years are welcome!

ORT Provides Technology at General Assembly

For the third year in a row, ORT set up all the Internet services at the General Assembly of the United Jewish Communities of North America, which took place in Chicago Nov. 10–15, 2000.

The ORT Information Booth provided multimedia presentations of ORT activities around the world.

ORT students assisted GA participants in surfing the net or checking email, and demonstrated their abilities in operating an industrial robotic arm.

Entertainment Sale Ends January 2nd

We have sold over 200 Entertainment Books, earning close to $1000 for ORT! We sold enough to earn $5 each instead of $4. Thanks to everyone who helped! I will include a list of top sellers (in addition to superstar Bobi Levine!) in the next bulletin.

But time is running out to make those final sales! All unsold books must be returned to Entertainment by 1/5/01.

Please get all your unsold books back to Wendy Fotland by January 2nd. If you need more, please call now! Mail checks to Wendy Fotland.

Welcome New Members!

Silicon Valley Chapter wishes to welcome our newest members. Dale Bergman, Leni Sue Masters and Eileen Rothschild joined ORT at our October pot luck dinner. Einat Nagar became a member at our November event at Petroglyph.

We’re happy to have them in our chapter, and hope to see them at many future ORT events!

ORT Cards Available

ORT has cards for all occasions! Call Diane Rauchwerger. Even better, you can also view and order all of the cards online!

Creative Fun at Petroglyph

Ceramics
Some of the beautiful things we created
Eight ORT members and friends, including 8-year-old Alex Fotland, had a great time at Petroglyph in November. We enjoyed refreshments, conversation and expressing our creativity for two hours. Several ORT homes now contain beautiful new art.

This time, we met at the Willow Glen Petroglyph, which has a parking lot, a feature we all appreciated. If you would like to have another opportunity to go to Petroglyph with ORT, please call Wendy. Maybe next time some of us can go out to dinner first!

EScrip is Coming Soon

Do you shop at Safeway, PW Market, or Draeger’s? These are just a few of the places involved in eScrip, a great way to support ORT without spending any extra money!

Ok, it costs $10 to register, but once you sign up, a portion of your purchases goes directly to ORT! We can raise thousands of dollars for our schools with no effort, if enough members register their credit cards or grocery cards with eScrip. This is the easiest fundraiser you’ll ever do!

We will have membership info soon. Call Wendy Fotland or check our website for updates.
