ORT Renzo Levi Inaugurated
(London, 30 January 2004) The ORT Renzo Levi High School in Rome was inaugurated on Monday 26th January 2004. Prior to the inauguration a Gala Dinner, with guests of honour Franco Frattini, Italy's Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Ehud Gol, Israeli Ambassador to Italy, was held by the Rome Jewish Community for the members of the World ORT's Executive Committee who were in the city for the Executive Meeting.

The ORT Renzo Levi High School opened in September 2003 in refurbished premises, donated by the Lazio Regional Government, near the city's main Synagogue. The school was formerly housed in a 16th century building owned by the Jewish community on the opposite side of the city's Tiber River from Jewish community buildings. The new school premises provide an upgraded technology department and is equipped with additional Computer Studies laboratories and state of the art language laboratories.

Members of World ORT's Executive Committee were guests of the Rome Jewish community at the Gala Dinner where Justice Richard Goldstone, President of World ORT, gave a brief address describing the activites of World ORT before presenting the Foreign Minister with a plaque. Prof. Giacomo Saban, President of ORT Italy, was honoured for his commitment to and involvement in the establishment of the new school.

Reese Feldeman, Chairman of the Executive Committee, officially opened ORT Renzo Levi, while Mauricio Merikanskas, Chairman of the Board of Directors, paid tribute to Ferruccio Sonnino, former National Director of ORT Italy - the most veteran member of ORT - for his many years of service to ORT.
